How to Care for Hemorrhoids

There are many factors that may cause hemorrhoids. It could be due to an inflammation of the veins inside the anus because of straining or due to wrong positioning such as prolonged sitting. Straining can be due to heavy lifting or a chronic asthma attack, or any chronic lung diseases that gives an increased pressure on the intra-abdominal area. The increased pressure may cause an obstruction on the flow of the blood through the veins which will result in swelling of the veins.
There are easy and simple actions to manage hemorrhoids. One, we need to ease the pain by applying a cold compress directly on the area of the hemorrhoids. To facilitate the correct application of the ice bag, the patient has to be in prone position, lie flat on bed facedown. You may request a family member to assist you. Aside from the cold application, warm water may help as well in cleaning the area. It could be done for several times a day. You may indulge yourself also in hot bath every day. The thing to avoid is salt on the bath that is truly irritating on the affected area. Another simple thing to do is by placing a wet tissue on your anal area after you have cleaned it after defecation. With regards to positioning, avoid standing or sitting for a long periods of time. Management of hemorrhoids will have to do with nutrition also. The regular eight glasses of water intake in a day should be taken seriously to help keep the stool loose for its easy passage. It is also advisable to increase fiber in the diet, such as fresh fruits and vegetables which will help in regulating the form of soft stools. Adjustment on lifestyle will help also, such as avoid heavy lifting of objects and perform tasks thru proper body mechanics, even on executing the regular exercise. There are instances that an over-the counter medications for hemorrhoids will also help to reduce the anal pain.
